Glock is a music producer from Yangon, Myanmar and I’m a huge fan (clearly). The first time I discovered him was probably a couple of years ago (5-6 years I guess) and I can’t really pinpoint which song it was, but I was pretty impressed with his voice and work. I decided to message him and compliment him on his work and I’m pretty sure all he said was “thanks”. But here we are, an interview with Glock.
Hi Glock, thank you for doing this interview with me! I have always been a fan of your work and I wanted to take the time to ask you a few questions about your work and get to know you a little bit better. For people who don’t know you yet, tell me about yourself and your music producer life?
Hello. A pleasure to have you here too. Thanks for the support. Okay, first of all, let me just introduce myself. I’m Glock, a music producer from Yangon, and I mostly make Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop music. My music works have featured in lots of hit albums and songs from various renowned artists in Burmese pop culture. I’ve been doing this for 9 years and it’s been fun.
You also sing, which is amazing by the way. But what do you prefer more, producing music or singing? And why?
Haha, yes, I sing sometimes too. But honestly, I prefer producing cus I think it’s more, umm, free, creative and expressing.
Do you think we would see an album from you in the near future?
Well, I’ve been just making music for others and I’m still really caught up in it so far. But sure, yeah. I’ll make an album one day, maybe a few years later from now, for the sake of my hobby. Haha.
What has been your favourite project that you’ve worked on so far?
Umm, I have to say that I’ve enjoyed almost every project I’ve worked on, you know? That’s why I do what I do. The satisfaction I get, when I’ve just created something, is unreal. As for something a little different, I worked on making background scores and soundtracks for an upcoming movie a few months ago. It was a whole new experience for me.
What producers, songwriters or artist/s do you see as your inspiration?
Okay, for that, I have a long list of them and I don’t know where to start, haha. I admire the diversity of creation and so, therefore, several artists from different backgrounds and genres have inspired me throughout this journey. For Hip-Hop, Dr.Dre, Polow Da Don, Timbaland, No ID etc. have been my inspiration for years.
How did you get started in the music and entertainment industry?
I started making music in 2008 and finally got in touch with the industry in 2013, I guess. It’s been a long run and honestly, the first five years of my career was just me struggling to drop something, you know? But I hanged on, stayed consistent and was approached by some upcoming stars afterwards. Some songs like X-Box’s “Always new” etc., made me gain some attention from the fanbase. Since 2013, I’ve produced music for more than 20 albums, from various artists.
What do you want to succeed in the next year or so?
I’ve been exploring this field of making music for movies and I hope I get more projects in the next year too. Other than that, I’ll just keep on making music for others. I’ve been working with new artists, too.
Now let’s have some fun and I’ll ask you 5 random questions.
Haha, sure, why not? 😀
1. Do you prefer music on Vinyl, CD or download? Digital download for convenience. Vinyl for the goddamn vibe.
2. Favourite quote? “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
3. Dog or cat? Dog, big ones especially.
4. Toast or eggs? Eggs for life.
5. Big party or small gathering? Gatherings, I guess.
Any final words for your fans and people who would like to succeed in the music industry?
Well, okay. I’m no expert but I do have a few words to say especially for the youngsters trying to get into the industry. Like I said above, just make sure it makes you happy. Make sure that it’s your art, but not the success nor fame, that gives you the satisfaction. Stay real. “Follow perfection and success will follow you, pants down.” – Phunsukh Wangdu (3idiots)
Thank you again for taking the time to do this interview with me, it has been a pleasure!
Thanks for letting me be a part of this too. It’s been fun! See you.
